Professor George Elton Mayo (1880–1949) was an Australian-born psychologist and Harvard Business School professor, widely respected as the father of the Human Relations Movement (and the inventor of the coffee break!). He is celebrated for pioneering the Hawthorne Studies (1924-32), which fundamentally changed how organizations view employee motivation, workplace dynamics and productivity.
