Celebrating Translation at Hatchards, Piccadilly
Join host Georgia de Chamberet and guests, Donald Rayfield OBE, translator from the Russian, Georgian and Uzbek – his translation of The Devils’ Dance by Hamid Ismailov won the EBRD Literature Prize 2019 – and Dennis Duncan, author of Babel and The Oulipo and Modern Thought, to discuss translation in the 21st century launching The Translation Book Club at Hatchards, 187 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LE
At the Launch on Mon, 8 April, editor, writer and founder of BookBlast Ltd, Georgia de Chamberet, and her guest translators will discuss the importance of reading fiction in translation and the art, power, impact and necessity of translation in the contemporary world when international relations and intercultural knowledge are so frayed.
Meeting on the second Monday of each month and hosted by Georgia de Chamberet, with surprise guests, works of fiction in translation from around the world published in the last ten years will be discussed.
The titles chosen by Georgia and Hatchards booksellers will be well-written, engaging storytelling, the book club aims to inspire reading for pleasure as well as illuminating cultures beyond our shores.
