This week, BookBlast highlights modernist prose fr This week, BookBlast highlights modernist prose from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Literature from the German-speaking world navigates a tumultuous century of war, division and reunification. From the symbolism and culture of the Danube region to the tricky realities of life in Berlin, memory, identity and family legacies are explored.
Ranging from the international bestseller Lázár by Nelio Biedermann, a multigenerational family saga with a gothic twist, the confrontational complicity of wartime legacy in Ludwig's Room by Alois Hotschnig, to the indulgent humour of Christian Kracht’s tragicomic, International Booker Prize nominee Eurotrash, these novels scrutinise the search for identity in the shadow of history.
