The works of Lucía Etxebarria, Almudena Grandes, Juan Goytisolo, Rosa Monterore, Antonio Muñoz Molina, Juan Marsé, Manuel Vilas are essential reading. As are the novels of Uruguayan-born Juan Carlos Onetti who became a Spanish citizen after being exiled from his homeland.
